Is it safe to travel to Ethiopia?

Ethiopia is generally a safe country, and Addis Ababa a safe city. However, one should still take the normal precautions, avoiding unfamiliar areas at night and not carrying large sums of money inaccessible pockets. It is advisable to beware of pick-pocketing in certain areas, skilled at identifying new arrivals. Violent robbery and mugging are very rare and generally, visitors can tour the city day and night safely. In fact, safety is one of the main factors contributing to the unique atmosphere in Ethiopia.

How do we travel while in Ethiopia?

We use comfortable Vehicles transportation and/or domestic flights, and boats on the Blue Nile, Lake Tana, Lake Chamo and Omo river.

What about the temperatures?

Ethiopia’s climate reflects its topography. The highlands have a moderate climate with average daytime temperatures of around 60°F (16°C). The far south and the eastern lowlands are hot and dry; the western lowlands are hot and humid. The Simien and Bale Mountains can get cold at night with temperatures below the freezing point.

What is the best time to visit Ethiopia?

Ethiopia can be visited at any time of the year. People are often advised against travelling during the rainy season, which normally runs from June until early October. However, this time has also its own advantages depending on where you go. In September and early October, the scenery is particularly beautiful when the landscape is still green and the whole country is turned into the uprising of wildflowers. The ideal time to visit Ethiopia is probably between October and April when rains are over, the countryside is still green and all roads should be accessible.

Do I need a Visa to come to Ethiopia?

No visa is required for the nationals of Kenya Djibouti, and Sudan. In addition, nationals of the following countries can easily get a visa on arrival at the airport. Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China. Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korean Republic, Kuwait, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherland, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Russian Federation, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Kingdom, United States of America Nationals out of the mentioned countries above may apply for a visa at the Ethiopian Diplomatic Mission Offices.

What about the food?

Is there a dress code I should be aware of?

It is advisable to be aware in places and times of worship to cover up. However, in other times and places, it would not show any disrespect if you wear shorts, jeans and t-shirts as all are acceptable in most parts of the country.

Are there the accessibility of internet in Ethiopia?

Telephone, fax, and internet access are available in most tourist destinations. There are internet services at hotels, telecommunication offices, and at private internet cafes in Addis and most of the towns outside of Addis Ababa.

What is your trip cancellation Policy?

Cancellation made 30 days before departure will have no penalty and the confirmation fee will be fully refunded. Any cancellation for confirmed bookings made less than 30 days from the arrival date will be subject to the following charges:

25 days before arrival – 20% will be charged

15 Days before arrival – 30% will be charged

7 Days before arrival – 50% will be charged

3 days before arrival – 75% will be charged

Postponing travel dates is possible if we are notified in advance and depending on availability.

How can I Pay for my trip?

We currently only accept official bank transfer. We shall update the information once we restart our credit card service. Contact us for our bank details.

How far in advance should I reserve a trip?

In order to confirm the desired hotels, it is recommended that bookings are made at least three months prior to the departure date. For special events and festivals, it is necessary to book at least 5 months in advance since hotel availability can be difficult to secure otherwise. Last minute booking is always possible depending on availability.

Are all the trips accompanied by a guide?

We can conduct the tours with English speaking driver guides or accompanying guides for the whole route or local guides at each destination. We can provide accompanying guides who speak English/German/French/Spanish etc for individuals or groups.

Can you book my international flight?

We can book both your international and domestic flight bookings. Please note that if you fly with Ethiopian Airlines for your International sector then there is up to 50% discount on the domestic sector.

How flexible are E and H’s Itinerary?

All our trips are flexible and can be designed based on the interest of the individual traveller. They can all be extended, minimized or redesigned in a way to suit your interest.

Can you put a custom trip for me?

Yes, we can. All we need is general information on how you would like us to run your trip and your specific interests.

Do you have the age restriction for any of your trips?

One must be at least 17 years old to travel independently. There is no upper age limit on our tours however we need a medical report for travellers older than 75 taking part in challenging tours. All family tours are open for children of any age, please advise us in advance. There are no restrictions on the number of children on a trip.

Do you offer trips for disabled people?

Yes, we do arrange special interest tours and we need clients requiring this service to contact us in advance with detailed information.
